Invincible season 2's heartbreaking conclusion has finally hit Prime Video and it is possibly more gruesome than what the first season's finale could ever show. Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) faced several challenges, from having to confront Viltrumite scouts to dealing with an entire Sequid invasion, in order to reach this grand finale against the multiversal madman Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown).

Throughout this show, Mark has been trying to balance his life after discovering his father, Omni-Man (J. K. Simmons), is still alive as well as the fact that he's got a new half-brother in Oliver. Unfortunately, Mark was inevitably forced to break up with Amber (Zazie Beetz) due to his heroic responsibilities and it does seem like he wants to stick to being Cecil's (Walton Goggins) agent.

Now, in Invincible season 2 episode 8, Mark's confrontation with Angstrom Levy has led to extreme consequences that Mark now has to come to terms with in the show's upcoming third season.

Mark Grayson Struggles With Emotional Balance In ‘Invincible' Season 2 Episode 8

Mark Grayson's multiversal, yet centralized battle with Angstrom Levy resulted in the show's most dramatic beating as the two ended up in a desolate wasteland that became Levy's grave. However, it seems like Levy's plan to get Mark to emotionally snap worked as his multiple teases to kill Debbie (Sandra Oh) and Oliver forced Mark to take him down at all costs.

After Mark kills off Levy, he remains trapped in this dimension for quite some time, allowing him to reflect on how he's becoming like Omni-Man by serving under Cecil and if Levy won in the end. Luckily for Mark, he isn't driven to the point of insanity as the future Guardians of the Globe, led by an older Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs), save him. Although, before he returns to his time, Eve tells him to confess his true feelings to her past self, which ultimately changes the timeline as remarked by Robot Rex (Jason Mantzoukas).

This brings Mark's arc in this season full circle: the line of morality has been blurred for Mark as he is unable to handle the weight his friends, Cecil, and his father have put upon him and vice versa. Furthermore, this gets driven home during Mark's conversation with Debbie as well as his brief encounter with Eve in the episode's final moments.

These two moments are extremely important as not only do they build on what's to come, but they also integrate the message that Mark needs to make the right changes to be better than Omni-Man. Mark's character is improving by sacrificing what he can't hold on to, but the universe will inevitably test him further.

Where The Guardians Of The Globe Go In ‘Invincible' Season 3

Meanwhile, the parallel storylines involving the Guardians of the Globe have found their own happy endings. Throughout Invincible season 2, both Robot and Immortal (Ross Marquand) have been dealing with their own personal issues: Robot has been looking for a way to stop Monster Girl's (Grey Griffin) de-aging while Immortal has been dealing with Dupli-Kate's (Malese Jow) loss.

Fortunately for Robot, he's come to learn that he needs to be more respectful of Monster Girl's decision as he's been trying to find a cure despite Monster Girl opposing it. As for Immortal, after accidentally supposing Allen (Seth Rogen) for Omni-Man, he decided to take a much-needed vacation from the Guardians.

Surprisingly, this helps him reunite with the original Kate in his hidden winter cabin. The two are both driven by their superpowers which make them immortal, thus allowing them to actually maintain that connection that no other lover of Immortal has had.

Unfortunately, things might not be looking up for the Guardians, or humanity in general, as the Sequids have made their arrival on Earth. By secretly hiding in the astronaut that served as the hivemind's host, one Sequid was able to survive, which could lead to a full-on invasion in the future.

Omni-Man And Allen's Team-Up Is Coming In ‘Invincible'

As for Omni-Man, who's been imprisoned by Kregg (Clancy Brown) this entire season, he was supposed to face execution at the hands of his Viltrumite captors. However, this had to be put off as the Viltrumites are more focused on claiming Mark for their inevitable invasion. Fortunately, Omni-Man has a new ally to help him: Allen.

After Allen encountered Mark, he sought to return to the Coalition of Planets with Nolan's secret writings. However, he decided to let himself get captured once again in order to tell him about everything that he's done and what they can do to stop the Viltrumites.

Unfortunately, Omni-Man doesn't want Mark or himself to get involved as he's regretfully come to terms with what he's done on Earth. This has led him to have an emotional breakthrough that he misses being with Debbie and Mark, which becomes the catalyst for his turn to the light.

This also finally lays the ground for the two's friendship that's to come as they team up to overthrow their Viltrumite captors and escape to the Coalition, which becomes an integral part of the overarching story going into Invincible‘s third season.

How Angstrom Levy Will Return In ‘Invincible' Season 3

However, while many are excited to see Mark and Omni-Man face off against the Viltrumite Empire, some are wondering if Angstrom Levy is really dead considering he's the primary antagonist of the Invincible War storyline. Considering this storyline might finally play out in Invincible‘s third season, Levy's status could remain a mystery for now.

In the comics, Levy managed to survive his fight with Mark thanks to his multidimensional abilities, eventually being rebuilt into something stronger. Levy would spy on Mark for months and gather many evil variants of Invincible before enacting his second revenge.

Should Prime Video's version follow in the same path, fans could expect most, if not all, the variants seen throughout this season to come together and launch an all-out, extreme assault on humanity as Levy commands behind the scenes. However, with Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa adapting these storylines in different directions, the Invincible War could be a contained mid-to-late season event in order to focus on the main narrative of the Viltrumite War that is yet to come.

All episodes of Invincible season 2 are now streaming on Prime Video.
